Anti modern slavery and anti human trafficking statement
Article 4 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) stipulates that no one shall be held in slavery or servitude, and all forms of slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited. The Supplementary Convention on the Abolition of Slavery, the Slave Trade, and Institutions and Practices Similar to Slavery, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in September 1956, further defined the concept and scope of the slave trade, emphasized the seriousness of the crime, and required the laws of the signatory countries of the convention to make the slave trade a crime and impose severe penalties. The supplementary convention also stipulates that certain practices similar to slavery, such as debt bondage, serfdom, buying and selling brides, and child labor, are illegal.
